Now in our third calendar year
PCR #93. (Vol. 3, No. 1) This edition is for the week of January 1--6, 2002.
Matt's Rail
Let me start the New Year off by wishing everyone a belated Merry Christmas and current Happy New Year!!

I'll dispense with my attendance issues as they are now well-chronicled. Things could be looking up job-wise for the Mattster, so normalcy will hopefully be upon me soon, thus, Rails with regularity!! Lucky you.

The fact the we are in the Year 2002 is hard to fathom, especially for those of us (which is most of us) who grew up begging for shows like "Space 1999" and Kubrick's "2001". One time far off and distant fantasy, now relegated to the pages of history. And before we know it, we'll be ushering in 2003! Last year at this time I was bemoaning turning 40, and now I don't want it to leave!! Go figure.

My new year's resolution was quite simple: Love my fellow man with a fervor. A pretty simple one, but one that I could up a notch or two.

I'm also resolving to not stay quiet in the face of hypocricy, but that's pretty much a long-standing thing with me, although I did squander a couple opportunities the past couple months, due to work, etc...such as the ridiculously stupid Robertson/Falwell fiasco, although they did both apologize and try to re-strategize their meanings to what they said. By now you know the deal, so I won't waste your time. Suffice it to this: It would be great if people could just say what they mean and mean what they say.

As for MIKE AND MATT'S FANTASY FOOTBALL CHALLENGE, I'm afraid it's all over but the crying for Mr. Smith. I've donned my Cow and the Spankmobile is ready to roll. I now lead the contest by an insurmountable 1000 points, and thus declare myself....WINNER!!!!! Sorry Mike, looks like you're the loser!! The Tonto to my Lone Ranger, the Barney to my Fred, the Spud child to my Mr. Potato Head!!! Like a rock homeboy...maybe next year.

In closing, I'd like to thank Mike and Nolan for being two of the greatest influences of my life, not to mention two of my dearest friends. If everyone felt as fortunate as I do for knowing these two excellent individuals, this could only be a better world. Till next time, Take care and God bless.
