I Heart CrazedFanboy.com

Dear Nolan,

Congratulations on reaching 500 issues of PCR!! That’s an amazing accomplishment of which you should be very proud. I didn’t discover CrazedFanboy.com until 2005, but since then this site has had a profound impact on my life.

CFB is my safe haven. Here I can talk about Star Trek and Battlestar Galactica without people making fun of me. On CFB I don’t have to keep explaining that horror film and horror fiction fans aren’t wannabe serial killers. This is the one place where I don’t have to preface my comments with “This isn’t as weird as it sounds” before talking about attending a SlayerCon or reading the latest issue of Rue Morgue or using the phrase “good gore” when describing a movie I’ve seen. Thank you for that.

CFB has brought a lot of fun, funny, fascinating people into my life. I’ve discovered filmmakers, actors and authors because of this site. I’ve spent countless hours here chatting / gossiping / discussing / arguing on every topic under the sun. I’ve made friends through the message board – some of whom I’ve never met in real life and others who I see in person every week – who gave me more support and encouragement during the whole cancer thing last summer than some of my own family members who’ve known me my entire life. Thank you for that. (I’ve also met some jerks and some crazies on this site that I’m not quite so thankful for. Payback’s a bitch, my dear Nolan.)

CFB has taught me so many things. Thanks to you and ED and others, I discovered Dr. Paul Bearer. Andy Lalino’s columns introduced me to Mary Woronov and Unique Video. I first heard about the Tampa Comic Con on this site. Over the years, CFB has inspired me and introduced me to new things. (If I had worked as hard in college as I do now when doing research for a PCR column or a message board post, I’d be a hell of a lot more successful.) I’ve seen movies and read books that I never would have discovered otherwise, all because of this site. Thank you for that.

Thank you for working so hard for the last ten years to give us crazed fanboys and fangirls an online home. (‘Cause otherwise we’d all be running around killing people like in those evil horror movies we’re obsessed with, you know.) Here’s to the next ten years!

Love,

Lisa “FANGRRL” Scherer
