CLASSIC MONSTERS DVD'S PULLED BACK
I mentioned some time ago that Universal had released Classic Monster Double Features on DVD that had yet to hit disc. Title groupings gave us such classics as Son of Frankenstein/Ghost of Frankenstein, Frankenstein Meets the Wolfman/House of Frankenstein, The Mummy's Hand/The Mummy's Tomb, and so on.

This was such an eagerly awaited event by people like myself, that when they were finally released, they began disappearing off store shelves at a manic pace. So one would have to ask the question "Why would they discontinue them and pull them off the shelves"?

My guess, naturally, is greed. While I hate to sound like the pessimist, I've worked in retail way too long to assume there could be any other driving force. Some homeboy at Universal undoubtedly realized that people were going to buy them regardless if they were double features or not. We'll know soon if I'm right as these DOUBLE FEATURES would end up returning as SINGLE FEATURES.

I guess I "could" be optimistic and think that, possibly, they are adding more extra features to the discs, but that wouldnt make since. If that were the case, they would leave the old ones out and try to sell them to unsuspecting patrons, who will then feel the need to purchase the NEW set, thus raising the profits.

Stay tuned!

FOUL!!!!
Some people like to do their laundry at the laundrymat. Others like to do it in the confines of their home. Some others, like Tatum O'Neil, like to offer THEIRS to the public. We're speaking of dirty laundry, of course.

In a soon-to-be aired 20/20 special, Tatum takes some serious, defaming shots at ex-hubby and ex-tennis icon John McEnroe. This is in direct response to Mac's book "You Cannot Be Serious," , in which he paints Tatum in a light that is less than shining.

Stating that McEnroe used steroids in his attempt to win tennis tournaments and used cocaine and marijuana while he was not playing, O'Neil claims the only reason he stopped was because "she" told him to, as he was becoming violent. These grapes she's been eating must certainly be bitter ones, as the ex-couples 3 children were awarded to McEnroe during the divorce, whom the court felt was a better parental figure than the drug-using O'Neil, who has now been clean for only a few months.

Showing the class that O'Neil obviously lacks, McEnroe stated simply "I am very disappointed in Tatum's statements. I had hoped that after all these years she would see things more accurately and that she would share my concern for the welfare of our children."

Nice that one of them keeps the IMPORTANT ISSUES in mind when they speak.

NEW POLL
I'm inviting everyone to my site to pick your favorite classic monster movie. The choices this month are Frankenstein with Boris, Dracula with Bela, or The Wolfman with Lon Jr. There have already been several votes cast and the poll will remain up until the end of July.

TOP 10 COVER SONGS REVISITED
As I KNEW would be the case, I immediately started recalling covers of songs that, in some cases, outdo the original versions. So real quickly I simply must mention Don McLean's covers of Your Cheatin' Heart by Hank Williams Sr. and Crying by Roy Orbison. Both of these can be found on McLean's Chained Lightning CD.

ALSO...I must also mention Psuedo Echo's version of Funky Town, which was originally done by Lipps Inc. Psuedo's is a rollicking rock and roll version that, to me, is far superior to the original. It also has one of the "happiest" sounding lead riffs you'll ever hear. You know...the kind that make you smile. If you haven't heard it, you should.

Till next week,
Take care and God Bless,
Matthew
