BYE, ART
Let me begin by saying that I've only been listening to Art Bell for about a year. Though I'm usually up and about at the time his show is on, I somehow never caught it. However, reading how passionately Nolan talked about it in the PCR, I searched him out here in KC and have listened semi-regularly. I have found the show to be quite entertaining and share Nolan's sentiments that it will indeed be missed. Perhaps we can persuade Mr. Bell to join PCR with a weekly column of his own?

MOVIE THINGS
As of this evening (12/18) I have seen "The Two Towers" twice. Depending on how many reviews pour in to PCR by our usual contributors, my review will appear next week, along with a rundown on "Gangs of New York."

As usual, along with the big movies, now is the time to get those early coming attractions on screen. Three upcoming sequels are prominently featured now. My thoughts:
Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines: Still not sure what to make of this one. Cool idea that the bad "guy" this time is a red-leather clad female. Arnold's droll "She'll be back" is either really funny or really lame, depending on how you look at it. (I vote "lame".--N)
X-Men 2: As Keanu Reeves would say........WHOA! Great trailer introducing just enough of the plot and new characters to make you want to see more. How funny that, at age 63, Sir Ian McKellen has become such an icon in the world of sci-fi and fantasy film! Plus, lots of Wolverine in full anger mode to keep us less knowledgeable fans interested.
Bad Boys 2: The first thing that hit me when I saw this preview was: Why in the hell does Martin Lawrence have top billing?? Lots of explosions and action let you know that director Michael Bay is still around.

On the comedy side, the two trailers getting the most laughs are "Bruce, Almighty," in which Jim Carrey becomes God for a week, and the prequel "Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd." Basically a teaser, the spot is getting many laughs. However, it fails to mention that neither Jim Carrey, Jeff Daniels or the Farrely brothers are involved with this film. Newcomers Eric Christian Olsen and Derek Richardson play the two misfit pals as special education students trying to survive in high school.

AND IN THE FUTURE
James Earl Jones has confirmed that his voice will be heard in the next "Star Wars" film. Jones told Arena that "George Lucas said to me, 'When Anakin goes bionic - that will be in the last five minutes of episode three - they will hear you." Can't wait.

And, under the heading "Why, God, why?" MGM has announced that a deal has been struck with Sylvester Stallone for "Rocky VI". Don't get me wrong - "Rocky" is one of my favorite films of all times. But how long can Sly keep doing it? Early story line is that the film will find Rocky Balboa running a youth center in Philadelphia and then being forced out of retirement for "one last fight." Hey, Sly, you're 56 years old! Take it easy. What's next - another Indiana Jones flick?

This just in: Steven Spielberg has announced that the next Indiana Jones flick will begin filming in May 2004 for a summer 2005 release. At the time of filming, Harrison Ford will be 64 years old!

Well, time to go watch my new "Back to the Future" trilogy DVD's. Woo hoo!

Wishing all of you a happy and SAFE holiday season. May God bless us all. See ya!
