Couch Potato Confessions by Vinnie B.
A sardonic commentary on America’s favorite pastime.

TV commercial Hall of Shame
Our first television commercial Hall of Shame award goes to the sandwich chain, Subway. After promoting healthy eating, with a slogan “Eat Fresh”, and weight-loss with the Jared campaign, their new ad campaign is a big disappointment. These new ads show various people, including Jared, indulging in a variety of unhealthy eating scenarios, and saying, “It’s OK, I had Subway for lunch.” What a shame that a chain that seemingly promoted healthy eating was really just engaging in an ad campaign and have no core values to back up their claim to “healthy eating”.

Matrix Reloaded Again
Granted, the couch potato doesn’t get out of the house much, so he only recently saw the second Matrix movie. Here is his review (warning: may contain spoilers):

Big Country Ultimate Collection
It was two years ago this month that the leading force behind the group “Big Country”, Stuart Adamson, tragically committed suicide, in another senseless death. While never embraced by America, Big Country continued to have a long and successful career in England and Europe far after 1982’s hit “In a Big Country”.

As a longtime Big Country fan I was very excited to learn that 22 Big Country videos have been released on DVD, in “Big Country, the Ultimate Collection”. Re-mastered in Dolby 5.1 sound this DVD is a joy to watch and crank up on the surround sound stereo. From the early videos and their finely crafted “art fag” haircuts it is interesting to see the band’s progression from 1982 to 1999. Unfortunately 3 videos from the CD “Why the Long Face” are not on this compilation and there are no special features or even director credits.

This DVD is must for any Big Country fan for its historical value and just for the sheer pleasure of seeing these videos for the first time, because I doubt any of these videos other than “In a Big Country” ever made it to MTV.
