Now see, it's this type of statement that does our party (speaking for myself, a proud Democrat), and consequently our country no good.
IMO, our main problem as a party is that instead of forming a cohesive political platform wherein we actually take a stance on an issue, we sit around and collectively urinate and moan about the state of things around here and "I hope SOME people will turn off their TV and DO SOMETHING". Then (and I hear this everyday from my fellow liberals) we get so frustrated because no one will DO SOMETHING that we declare our intention to "leave the country".
Well, first off, (and I think I can say this with some measure of certainty) the folks on the right would love nothing MORE than if the liberals all packed up en-masse and immigrated to Canada tomorrow. Hell, I bet they'd offer to help us pack!
Not me, baby! I aint goin’ ANYWHERE!
I am staying here and fighting the good fight! I am pledging that I intend to walk my talk!
I, too, am disgusted to be represented globally by this corrupt administration. I further allege that the corruption goes deeper than just the administration, rather it goes to the core of the entire GOP, who has IMO, learned how to cheat the system so that there will never be another Democratic candidate elected.
But here's the deal.... we're not gonna change things by ranting and raving at the Cons and trying to open their eyes. That's simply not going to happen (no more than you would be swayed to "the dark side" by any thing they could say to you) and you are just banging your head against a brick wall trying. You are also giving them more of what they want by coming off as a hysterical knee-jerk tree-huggin' liberal.
We, as a party, have GOT to get our act together. We need to STOP pandering to the "so called" moderates in this country and go after our base, the way the Cons do.
We need to STAND for something and say so! We need to decide on a dogma and embrace it!
You know where the right stands on the issues, but the Dems are too busy being P.C. to say how they really feel about anything!
For Pete’s sake, if we, as a party, just stood up for gay rights in this country, do you realize how many more registered and voting Democrats we'd have in '08?
We (most liberals I've talked to) know that we don't want an amendment in the Constitution that forbids gay marriages, but we don't step up and actually "come out" (pun intended) for gay rights across the board in this country.
We know how we feel about the (IMO) stolen election(s) and the rampant corruption and dismal failure of this administration, yet we (our party leaders, and to some measure, ourselves, as we have failed to hold our representatives accountable to the will of the people) have yet to make any real allegations or any real attempts at removing them from office.
"Stand for something, or you'll fall for anything".
Isn't that what we're doing? Isn't that what the Republicans are counting on?
You know what, we DO need to turn off our TVs and do something, but change starts with YOU! You, me, and all of us. We need to demand that our elected officials better represent their constituents! We need to take a stand on issues and vote for candidates who are willing to take that stand with us!
We need to take back OUR country from those who would bastardize the very concepts that this great nation was built on!
This liberal isn’t “falling for it” any more!
